Zuniga Jetty and the adjacent Zuniga Shoal sit at the mouth of San Diego Bay, where a rock structure and sloping bottom hold water from 10 to 45 feet. California Halibut peak from March through June and Pacific Halibut from February through July, both taken by drift fishing live anchovies, live sardines, or soft plastic swimbaits across the shallower sand. White Seabass move through from March into July and respond to live bait fishing with live squid, sardine, or mackerel worked near the rocks. Calico Bass hold tight to the jetty structure and peak in June and July, with plastics on leadheads such as swimbaits, grubs, and paddle tails covering the rock edges. Drifting the shoal on moving tide keeps baits tracking naturally along the depth changes where these species stage.
