Mitchell Cove Hump is an outer-exposed rocky pinnacle off Santa Cruz, rising from depths of 120 to 200 feet. The structure holds a strong rockfish population, with Black Rockfish peaking May through September, Blue Rockfish from March through August, and Copper Rockfish from March through September. Lingcod move onto the high rock from September through February, while Chinook Salmon pass through the surrounding water from March through July and California Halibut work the area from April through August. Jigging with metal jigs and swimbaits produces well over the pinnacle for lingcod and rockfish, and bottom fishing with shrimp flies and squid strips targets copper rockfish tight to the rock. For salmon, trolling anchovies, spoons, and flashers covers the open water above the structure.
