About Santa Monica Pier
Santa Monica Pier extends off the coast of Santa Monica, California, offering anglers direct access to the open sandy-bottom waters of Santa Monica Bay. California Halibut hold as the marquee species here, peaking March through July, while Pacific Bonito run strong from May through September and California Barracuda push through the area April into September. Barred Sand Bass round out the mix with strong showings in March and again from June through August. Drift fishing with live anchovies, sardines, or smelt works the sandy flats for halibut and sand bass, and live bait chumming with anchovies or sardines draws bonito within casting range of the pier. When barracuda school up, trolling tube lures, spoons, and swimbaits or casting metal jigs and surface irons covers water efficiently.
