About The Bubbles
The Bubbles is an outer-exposed sand flat off Santa Monica, California, running from 180 to 280 feet deep with open bottom and no hard structure to break the current. The flat holds a strong summer lineup: Pacific Bonito peak from May through September, California Barracuda from April through September, and Yellowtail from May through October, while White Seabass and California Halibut fish best March through July. Drift fishing across the sand with live anchovies or sardines covers both Halibut and Barred Sand Bass, the latter running through the warmer stretch from June to August. Yellowtail and Bonito respond to live bait, with sardines and mackerel worked over the flat and surface iron or metal jigs as an alternative when fish push higher in the water column. For White Seabass, live squid remains the primary approach through the spring and early-summer window.
