About Rocky Point
Rocky Point sits off Santa Monica, California, where rocky structure and kelp cover break up water running from 20 to 90 feet deep. The spot holds a strong mixed fishery through the warmer months, with California Halibut and White Seabass peaking from March through July, Yellowtail from May through October, and Calico Bass building from April into August. Drift fishing live anchovies and sardines works the deeper flats for halibut, while live squid, sardines, and mackerel draw White Seabass off the same depths. Anglers targeting Calico Bass fish plastics like swimbaits and soft plastic grubs tight to the kelp and rock. As the water cools, Lingcod take over from September through February, worked with vertical jigging using metal jigs and leadhead swimbaits along the bottom structure.
