About Resort Point

Resort Point is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Santa Monica, California, where the bottom falls through the 260 to 660 foot range. The structure holds California Halibut, which peak from March through July, alongside Barred Sand Bass at their best in March and June through August and Calico Bass from April through August. Anglers drift live anchovies, live sardines, or live smelt across the slope for halibut, while the same drifts tipped with plastic swimbaits take Barred Sand Bass along the rock. Calico Bass respond to swimbaits, soft plastic grubs, and leadhead jigs worked tight to the structure, and Leopard Sharks, strongest from April through August, come to squid or mackerel soaked on the bottom. The rock also produces California Scorpionfish, Kelp Bass, and Bonito through the warmer months.
