The Pipe marks the Hyperion Outfall off Santa Monica, California, where the bottom runs from 60 to 110 feet over structure that concentrates fish along the drop. California Halibut hold here from March through July, while Barred Sand Bass peak in March and again from June through August, both taken by drifting live anchovies or sardines across the depth. Sculpin move in from June through September and respond to a dropper loop baited with squid or mackerel strips worked on the bottom. Leopard Shark run April through August and come to squid, mackerel, or shrimp soaked on the bottom, and Pacific Bonito school the area from May through September, drawn in by live bait chumming with anchovies and sardines. California Scorpionfish also work this depth, rounding out a mix that rewards precise drifts over the outfall structure.
