About Will Rogers State Beach (South End)
Will Rogers State Beach (South End) is an open sand beach fronting Santa Monica Bay, where the shoreline slopes into soft-bottom habitat rather than reef or rock. California Halibut are the primary target, peaking from March through July, with Barred Sand Bass moving in around March and again from June through August. Drift fishing carries both species here, presenting live anchovies, live sardines, or live smelt across the sandy flats for halibut and swapping to plastic swimbaits when sand bass are holding. Anglers also work the same water with jigging, running leadhead swimbaits, soft plastics, or metal jigs along the bottom contour. The sandy, structureless nature of the beach means covering ground on the drift produces more than sitting in one place.
