STRUCTURE

Outer Exposed

Arch Rock at Anacapa Island sits off Ventura, California, where an outer-exposed rock drop-off falls through depths of 60 to 300 feet. The structure holds a deep-water rockfish community, with Bocaccio peaking August through October alongside Cowcod, Sablefish, and Widow Rockfish, while Lingcod run strongest from January to March and again October through December. Anglers work Bocaccio over the rocky slope with dropper loop rigs baited with squid strips, cut mackerel, anchovies, or shrimp flies, and drop vertical jigs when fish stack tight to structure. Lingcod respond to vertical jigging with metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs along the same rock edges, with live sardines, live mackerel, or whole squid on live bait as a secondary approach. The exposed position and steep contour concentrate fish along the drop, where jigs and baits presented near the bottom reach the productive zone.
