PEAK
STRUCTURE

Hueneme Canyon is a deep offshore drop off Santa Monica, California, where the seafloor plunges through 570 to 860 feet of water. Sablefish hold along these depths and peak from November through January and again April through October, with deep dropping using squid, mackerel strips, or sardine working the bottom. Slope rockfish stack up over the same slope, running strong from August through February and again March through July, and respond to deep dropping with squid strips, shrimp flies, or heavy jigs. Lingcod move onto the canyon structure September through February and take vertical jigging with metal jigs or leadhead jigs rigged with swimbaits. Pacific halibut work the shallower margins from February through May, and albacore tuna pass through the offshore water from June through October, where trolling cedar plugs and feather jigs covers the surface.
