About San Pedro Point

San Pedro Point is an outer-exposed rocky drop-off off Ventura, California, where the bottom falls through 0 to 65 feet over hard structure. California Halibut and Barred Sand Bass are the main draw from March through August, with White Seabass filling in from February through July and California Sheephead peaking July through September. Drift fishing along the drop-off with live anchovies, sardines, or squid covers both halibut and sand bass over the rock, while live squid or live mackerel worked as bait targets white seabass holding on the same structure. Sheephead respond to bait fishing with live shrimp, squid, or mussels tight to the rock, and a dropper loop with squid or cut bait reaches fish along the deeper edges. The rocky relief and exposed setting also hold California Scorpionfish, Bonito, Leopard Shark, and seasonal schools of Pacific sardine and squid.
