About Bay Point

Bay Point is an exposed offshore drop-off off Miami, Florida, where hard rock bottom falls away from 260 to 660 feet in the Southeast Region of Florida's Atlantic state waters. Snapper action peaks in late spring and early summer, with Mutton Snapper running April through June and Gray Snapper and Yellowtail Snapper peaking May through July alongside Common Snook. King Mackerel take over from November through March, and Crevalle Jack round out the species mix along the ledge. Bottom fishing with live pilchards, live ballyhoo, cut bait, or squid works the rock edge for Mutton and Gray Snapper, while chumming with frozen chum blocks and glass minnows pulls Yellowtail Snapper up off the structure. In the cooler months, slow trolling live goggle eyes, live blue runners, or live pilchards along the drop-off targets King Mackerel.
