About Biscayne Flats
Biscayne Flats is a shallow sand flat off Miami, Florida, with mid-exposure water running from 0 to 10 feet deep. Bonefish are the main draw, peaking from March through May and again in September and October. Permit and tarpon share the spring window from March through May, and common snook peak from May through July, with crevalle jack rounding out the lineup. The open sand bottom suits sight casting for bonefish with live shrimp, shrimp-tipped jigs, or small bucktail jigs, while fly anglers present shrimp flies and crab flies to cruising fish. Permit respond to live crabs and live shrimp, and tarpon and snook take live pilchards, live mullet, and live shrimp worked by live bait drifting across the flat.
