About Biscayne Island
Biscayne Island is a protected sand flat in Miami, Florida, with 5 to 10 feet of water over a sandy bottom sheltered from open exposure. Common Snook and Gray Snapper peak here from May through July, Yellowtail Snapper share the same summer window, and Mutton Snapper peak earlier, from April through June. King Mackerel take over the cooler months with a peak from November through March, and Crevalle Jack also work the area. Live bait drifting with live pilchards, live shrimp, or live pinfish across the sand is the dominant approach for snook, and jigging with bucktail jigs or soft plastic swimbaits serves as a supporting option. Gray Snapper respond to bottom fishing with cut bait, live shrimp, or squid presented along the flat's sandy bottom.
