About Blue Fire Reef
Blue Fire Reef is an artificial reef in federal Atlantic waters off Miami, Florida, at 25.5666, -80.0905. The structure holds Greater Amberjack and Black Grouper alongside Mutton Snapper, which peak from April through June and respond to bottom fishing with live pilchards, live ballyhoo, cut bait, or squid dropped tight to the reef. In the open water around the site, Dorado run from March through July and fall to trolling with rigged ballyhoo, skirted trolling lures, and feathers. King Mackerel take over from November through March, with slow trolling live goggle eyes and live blue runners as the dominant approach. Wahoo peak from September through December, when high-speed trolling with weighted trolling lures and bullet-head lures covers the water surrounding the reef.
