About Bug Light Reef

Bug Light Reef is an artificial reef off Miami in the Florida Atlantic State Waters of the Southeast Region, where placed structure draws a mix of snapper, jacks, and pelagics. Mutton Snapper peak from April through June, and Gray Snapper, Yellowtail Snapper, and Common Snook all hit their stride from May through July. Bottom fishing with live pilchards, cut bait, or squid works the structure for mutton and gray snapper. Chumming with frozen chum blocks and glass minnows pulls yellowtail up off the reef. From November through March, King Mackerel take over, and slow trolling live blue runners or live goggle eyes around the reef targets them, while Crevalle Jack round out the catch through the year.
