About East Government Cut Hump
East Government Cut Hump is a rock pinnacle rising off the outer, exposed edge of the Miami shoreline, holding fish in 35 to 65 feet of water east of Government Cut. Mutton Snapper peak here from April through June, while Gray Snapper, Yellowtail Snapper, and Common Snook all hit their stride from May through July. Bottom fishing with live pilchards, cut bait, or squid works the rocky base of the hump for both mutton and gray snapper, and chumming with frozen chum blocks and glass minnows pulls yellowtail up off the structure. From November through March, King Mackerel move over the pinnacle, and slow trolling live goggle eyes or live blue runners along its edges targets them directly. Crevalle Jack also patrol the hump and round out the mix of species working this exposed rock.
