About Fisher Island
Fisher Island marks an exposed rock-bottom drop-off off Miami, where the bottom falls away from 330 feet to more than 1,300 feet in the Southeast Region of Florida's Atlantic state waters. Snapper action peaks in late spring and early summer, with Mutton Snapper best from April through June and Gray Snapper and Yellowtail Snapper peaking from May through July, while Common Snook share that same May-to-July window. Bottom fishing with live ballyhoo, live pilchards, cut bait, or squid works the rocky ledge for mutton and gray snapper, and chumming with frozen chum blocks and glass minnows draws yellowtail up off the structure. From November through March, King Mackerel take over the exposed edge, and slow trolling live goggle eyes, live blue runners, or live pilchards along the drop-off puts baits in their path. Crevalle Jack round out the species mix on this deep, open-water break.
