About Mine Sweeper Reef
Mine Sweeper Reef is an artificial reef in the federal Atlantic waters off Miami, where placed structure on the seafloor holds both bottom species and passing pelagics. Black Grouper and Greater Amberjack hold tight to the structure, while Mutton Snapper peak from April through June and respond to bottom fishing with live pilchards, live ballyhoo, cut bait, or squid. Above the reef, King Mackerel run strongest from November through March, and slow trolling with live goggle eyes, live blue runners, or live pilchards works the water over the structure. Wahoo peak from September through December and take high-speed trolling with weighted trolling lures, bullet-head lures, and trolling plugs. Dorado move through from March through July and hit rigged ballyhoo and skirted trolling lures trolled along the edges of the reef.
