About Neptune Memorial Reef
Neptune Memorial Reef is an artificial reef in the federal Atlantic waters off Miami, Florida, where constructed structure on the seafloor holds both bottom-dwelling reef fish and passing pelagics. Black Grouper and Greater Amberjack hold tight to the reef, while Mutton Snapper peak from April through June and respond to bottom fishing with live ballyhoo, live pilchards, cut bait, or squid, with jigging bucktail jigs as a supporting option. Over the surrounding blue water, Dorado run strongest from March through July and fall to trolled rigged ballyhoo and skirted trolling lures. The cooler months shift the focus to King Mackerel, which peak from November through March and take slow-trolled live goggle eyes and live blue runners. Wahoo peak from September through December, when high-speed trolling with weighted trolling lures and bullet-head lures covers the water around the reef.
