About Northwest Point
Northwest Point is an outer, exposed rock drop-off off Miami, Florida, where the bottom falls away through depths of roughly 260 to 660 feet. Tarpon peak from March through May, while Common Snook and Gray Snapper both reach their peak from May through July, and Sheepshead and Crevalle Jack round out the species mix. The rocky ledge concentrates bait along the break, and anglers working the edge rely on bottom fishing with cut bait, squid, or live pilchards for Gray Snapper. Live bait drifting with live mullet, live pilchards, or live shrimp along the drop-off accounts for both Common Snook and Tarpon. When fish push up in the water column, casting artificials such as soft plastic swimbaits and bucktail jigs covers the edge of the structure.
