About Ostwind Reef

Ostwind Reef is an artificial reef in the federal Atlantic waters off Southeast Florida, east of Miami. The structure holds Greater Amberjack and Black Grouper, while Mutton Snapper peak from April through June and respond to bottom fishing with live ballyhoo, live pilchards, cut bait, or squid. Pelagic traffic passes over the reef through much of the year, with Dorado peaking from March through July and Wahoo from September through December. Anglers target Wahoo by high-speed trolling weighted trolling lures, bullet-head lures, and bonito strips, and they troll rigged ballyhoo and skirted trolling lures for Dorado. King Mackerel take over from November through March, when slow trolling live goggle eyes, live blue runners, or live pilchards near the reef draws strikes.
