About Palm Island
Palm Island is an outer, exposed drop-off off Miami, Florida, where rocky bottom falls away through depths of 330 to 1310 feet in the Southeast Region of Florida's Atlantic state waters. Mutton Snapper peak from April through June, while Gray Snapper, Yellowtail Snapper, and Common Snook all reach their peak from May through July. King Mackerel take over the cooler months from November through March, and Crevalle Jack round out the species list. Bottom fishing with live ballyhoo, live pilchards, cut bait, or squid works the rock ledges for Mutton and Gray Snapper, and chumming with frozen chum blocks and glass minnows draws Yellowtail Snapper up off the structure. For King Mackerel, slow trolling live goggle eyes, live blue runners, or live pilchards along the edge of the drop-off covers the water where these fish feed.
