About Sir Scott Reef

Sir Scott Reef is an artificial reef in federal Atlantic waters off southeast Florida, east of Miami. The structure holds Mutton Snapper, Black Grouper, and Greater Amberjack along the bottom, with Mutton Snapper peaking from April through June, when bottom fishing with live pilchards, live ballyhoo, cut bait, or squid works the reef directly. Pelagic traffic passes over the structure through much of the year: King Mackerel peak from November through March, Dorado from March through July, and Wahoo from September through December. Slow trolling live goggle eyes, live blue runners, or live pilchards around the reef's edges targets King Mackerel in the cooler months. High-speed trolling with weighted trolling lures, bullet-head lures, and trolling plugs covers water for Wahoo in the fall, while trolling rigged ballyhoo and skirted trolling lures draws Dorado through spring and early summer.
