About South Beach Reef

South Beach Reef is an artificial reef off Miami, Florida, within the Southeast Region of Florida's Atlantic state waters. Its structure holds Yellowtail Snapper and Gray Snapper, both peaking May through July, along with Mutton Snapper from April through June and Common Snook from May through July. King Mackerel take over the cooler months, peaking November through March, and Crevalle Jack round out the mix. Chumming with frozen chum blocks and glass minnows pulls Yellowtail Snapper up off the reef, while bottom fishing with live pilchards, live ballyhoo, and cut bait works the structure for Mutton and Gray Snapper. In winter, slow trolling live goggle eyes and live blue runners around the reef targets passing King Mackerel.
