About Tarpoon Reef
Tarpoon Reef is an artificial reef in federal Atlantic waters off Miami, Florida. The structure holds Black Grouper and Greater Amberjack, while Mutton Snapper peak from April through June and respond to bottom fishing with live ballyhoo, live pilchards, cut bait, or squid worked tight to the reef. Dorado move through from March to July, and trolling rigged ballyhoo or skirted trolling lures along the edges of the reef covers water efficiently for them. In fall, Wahoo peak from September through December and fall to high-speed trolling with weighted trolling lures and bullet-head lures. King Mackerel take over from November through March, when slow trolling live goggle eyes, live blue runners, or live pilchards near the structure draws strikes.
