About Watson Island
Watson Island sits off Miami in the Florida Atlantic State Waters Southeast Region, where an exposed rocky drop-off falls from the shallows to about 35 feet. Common Snook, Gray Snapper, and Yellowtail Snapper peak from May through July, Mutton Snapper peaks from April through June, and King Mackerel take over from November through March, with Crevalle Jack also working the area. Anglers drift live pilchards, live shrimp, live mullet, or live pinfish along the rock edge for snook. Bottom fishing with cut bait, live shrimp, or squid along the 0–35 foot slope targets Gray Snapper, while chumming with frozen chum blocks and glass minnows pulls Yellowtail Snapper up off the structure. In the cooler months, slow trolling live blue runners, live goggle eyes, or live ballyhoo puts baits in front of King Mackerel moving along the outer edge.
