About Wood Boat Reef
Wood Boat Reef is an artificial reef off Miami in the Southeast Region of Florida's Atlantic state waters, where the reef's structure concentrates baitfish and the predators that follow them. Spring and early summer bring the busiest stretch, with Mutton Snapper peaking April through June and Gray Snapper, Yellowtail Snapper, and Common Snook all peaking May through July. King Mackerel take over in the cooler months, peaking November through March, and Crevalle Jack round out the mix. Over the reef, bottom fishing with live pilchards, cut bait, or squid targets Gray and Mutton Snapper, while chumming with frozen chum blocks and glass minnows pulls Yellowtail Snapper up off the structure. Around the edges, slow trolling live goggle eyes or live blue runners works the reef for King Mackerel, and live bait drifting with live pilchards or live shrimp targets Common Snook.
