About Ayres Point
Ayres Point is an exposed rock drop-off in the Tampa Bay region near Sarasota, Florida, where hard bottom falls from the shallows to about 15 feet. Common Snook peak here from May through July, Gray Snapper from June through August, and Red Drum in September and October, while Sheepshead also hold along the rocky edge. Spanish Mackerel move through in two windows, March through May and again September through November. Anglers work the drop-off for snook with live pilchards, live pinfish, and live shrimp, and fish the rock bottom for Gray Snapper with live shrimp, cut sardines, and squid. Mackerel respond to small spoons, jigs, and plugs cast over the deeper edge.
