About Casey Key
Casey Key is an outer-exposed stretch of Gulf shoreline south of Sarasota, where a sand-bottom drop-off falls from 10 to 40 feet within the Sarasota Bay Region of Florida's Gulf state waters. Common Snook peak from May through July, Gray Snapper from June through August, and Red Drum in September and October. Spanish Mackerel run in two windows, March through May and September through November, and Sheepshead round out the bottom action. Snook respond to live bait fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, or live threadfin herring worked along the edge of the drop. Gray Snapper hold deeper on the sand slope, where bottom fishing with live shrimp, cut sardines, or squid draws steady bites.
