About Fishery Point
Fishery Point is a protected inner-bay spot in the Sarasota Bay Region of Florida's Gulf state waters, where a sand bottom sits in 5 to 10 feet of water. Common snook peak here from May through July, gray snapper from June through August, and red drum from September through October, while Spanish mackerel move through in two windows, March through May and September through November, and sheepshead round out the bay's lineup. Snook respond to live bait fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, live shrimp, or live threadfin herring, and paddletail swimbaits and soft plastic jerkbaits cover the sand when casting artificials. Red drum cruising the shallow, sheltered water set up well for sight casting with gold spoons or cut bait. Gray snapper hold to bottom fishing with live shrimp or cut sardines, and Spanish mackerel hit small spoons and jigs cast across the open bay.
