About Fogarty Point
Fogarty Point is an outer, exposed rock drop-off off Sarasota in the Tampa Bay region of Florida's Gulf state waters, with depths falling from 260 to 660 feet. Common Snook peak here from May through July, Gray Snapper from June through August, and Red Drum in September and October, while Sheepshead round out the bottom-dwelling lineup. Spanish Mackerel run in two windows, March through May and again September through November, when casting small spoons, jigs, and plugs or trolling them along the edge works the passing schools. Along the rock ledge, bottom fishing with live shrimp, live pilchards, cut sardines, or squid targets Gray Snapper, and chumming with frozen chum blocks or cut sardines draws them up off the structure. Snook anglers rely on live bait fishing with live pinfish, live pilchards, or live threadfin herring, and Red Drum respond to bottom fishing with cut mullet, cut ladyfish, or blue crabs.
