About Golden Gate Point
Golden Gate Point is a protected inshore bay spot in Sarasota, Florida, where mud bottom in Sarasota Bay runs from the shallows out to about 15 feet. Common Snook peak here from May through July, Gray Snapper from June through August, and Red Drum in September and October, while Sheepshead round out the resident inshore mix. Spanish Mackerel move through in two windows, March through May and again from September through November. Live bait fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, or live shrimp is the dominant approach for snook along the sheltered edges, and bottom fishing with live shrimp or cut sardines targets snapper in the deeper pockets of the range. Over the shallow mud flats, sight casting with gold spoons or soft plastic jerkbaits puts anglers on cruising redfish during the fall peak.
