About Hooker Point
Hooker Point is an outer, exposed drop-off near Sarasota in the Tampa Bay region of Florida's Gulf state waters, where a sand bottom falls away through depths of 15 to 45 feet. Common Snook peak here from May through July, Gray Snapper from June through August, and Red Drum in September and October, while Sheepshead also work the area. Spanish Mackerel move through in two windows, March through May and September through November, and anglers target them by casting small spoons, jigs, and plugs or by trolling. Along the edge of the drop, snook respond to live bait fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, live shrimp, and live threadfin herring. Gray Snapper hold deeper on the sand, where bottom fishing with live shrimp, cut sardines, or squid takes them consistently.
