About Jewfish Key
Jewfish Key is an outer, exposed drop-off in the Sarasota Bay region, where mixed bottom falls away from 5 to 25 feet. Common Snook peak here from May through July, Gray Snapper from June through August, and Red Drum in September and October, while Sheepshead hold along the structure. Spanish Mackerel run the deeper edge from March through May and again from September through November, and anglers target them by casting small spoons, jigs, and plugs. Snook respond to live bait fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, and live shrimp worked along the ledge. Gray Snapper and Red Drum come to bottom fishing on the mixed bottom, with live shrimp and cut sardines for snapper and cut mullet or blue crabs for drum.
