About Key ROyale Bar
Key Royale Bar is an exposed sand flat near Sarasota on the Florida Gulf Coast, with depths of 5 to 10 feet across its open bottom. Red Drum peak here in September and October, and sight casting gold spoons or soft plastic jerkbaits to cruising fish over the clear sand is the dominant approach. Spotted Seatrout move across the bar in March and April and again in October, when anglers work paddletail soft plastics on jigheads or fish live shrimp under a popping cork. Common Snook peak from May through July and respond to live bait fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, or live threadfin herring. Sheepshead round out the species mix on this outer, exposed stretch of sand.
