About McNeil Point
McNeil Point is an exposed rocky drop-off in the Tampa Bay region of Florida's Gulf state waters, off the Sarasota coast. Common Snook peak here from May through July, Gray Snapper from June through August, and Red Drum in September and October, with Sheepshead also working the rock. Spanish Mackerel move through in two windows, March through May and again September through November, when casting small spoons and jigs along the edge produces steady action. The rock bottom and sharp change in depth concentrate Gray Snapper, which anglers target by bottom fishing with live shrimp, live pilchards, or cut sardines tight to the structure. Snook respond to live bait fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, or live threadfin herring presented along the drop.
