About New Pass Fishing Pier
New Pass Fishing Pier sits on the Sarasota waterfront at New Pass, a pier in the Sarasota Bay region of Florida's Gulf state waters. Sheepshead lead the winter season from December through March, and anglers work them with bottom fishing rigs baited with fiddler crabs, sand fleas, or live shrimp tight to the pier structure. Common Snook take over from May through July, when live bait fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, or live threadfin herring draws strikes around the pier, and Gray Snapper peak from June through August for bottom fishing with live shrimp, cut sardines, or squid. Spanish Mackerel run through the area in two windows, March through May and September through November, and casting small spoons, jigs, and plugs covers the moving schools. Red Drum peak in September and October, and Spotted Seatrout show in March, April, and October, giving the pier a steady rotation of targets through the year.
