About Point of Rocks
Point of Rocks is a rock outcrop off Sarasota, Florida, within the Sarasota Bay Region of Florida's Gulf state waters. The structure draws Sheepshead from December through March, Common Snook from May through July, and Red Drum in September and October. Spanish Mackerel move through in two windows, March to May and September to November, while Spotted Seatrout peak in March and April and again in October, and Gray Snapper hold on the rock from June through August. Bottom fishing tight to the outcrop with live shrimp, fiddler crabs, or sand fleas targets Sheepshead, and the same approach with live shrimp or cut sardines works for Gray Snapper during the summer months. Around the rock edges, anglers work live pilchards or live pinfish for Snook and cast small spoons or jigs to Spanish Mackerel feeding over the structure.
