About Point Ogden
Point Ogden is a sand-bottom flat near Sarasota on the Tampa Bay region of Florida's Gulf waters, with moderate exposure and depths running from 10 to 25 feet. Common Snook peak here from May through July, Gray Snapper from June through August, and Red Drum in September and October, while Sheepshead round out the inshore lineup. Spanish Mackerel run in two windows, March through May and again September through November, and anglers target them by casting small spoons, jigs, and plugs across the open sand. Snook respond best to live bait fishing with live pilchards, live pinfish, or live shrimp drifted over the flat. Red Drum draw sight casting with gold spoons and soft plastic jerkbaits in the shallower sections, and Gray Snapper take live shrimp and cut sardines fished on the bottom in the deeper water.
