About Sarasota Point
Sarasota Point is an exposed sand-bottom drop-off off Sarasota, Florida, within the Sarasota Bay Region of Florida's Gulf state waters. Common Snook peak from May through July, Gray Snapper from June through August, and Red Drum from September through October, while Spanish Mackerel run in two windows, March through May and September through November, and Sheepshead round out the species mix. The sand ledge concentrates bait along its edge, where bottom fishing with live shrimp, live pilchards, cut sardines or squid targets Gray Snapper and chumming with frozen chum blocks holds them up off the drop. Snook respond to live pilchards, live pinfish and live threadfin herring worked along the same break, and Red Drum take cut mullet, cut ladyfish and blue crabs fished on the bottom. Spanish Mackerel push over the exposed outer edge, where anglers cast small spoons, jigs and plugs or troll them along the drop-off.
