About Red Fish Island
Red Fish Island is a protected mud flat in the Galveston Bay System near Galveston, Texas, with water running 5 to 10 feet deep. Red Drum peak from August through October, Spotted Seatrout from March through May, Black Drum from January through March, and Southern Flounder from September through November. Red Drum respond to drift fishing with live shrimp, live finger mullet, or cut mullet across the soft mud bottom. Spotted Seatrout take live shrimp and live croaker under popping cork rigs, while Black Drum hold close to the bottom for fresh dead shrimp and blue crab. In fall, Southern Flounder settle on the mud, where jigging soft plastic paddle tails on jigheads works the bottom effectively.
