Black Rock is a rocky drop-off off Anacortes, Washington, in DFO subarea 7, where the bottom falls through mid-exposure water from about 30 to 180 feet. The structure holds Pacific Halibut at their peak from March through July and Lingcod earliest in the year, February into March, while Chinook Salmon run strong June through August and Coho stretch from June into October. Black Rockfish concentrate over the rock through the summer, May to August, and the spot also gives up Pollock and Pacific Cod. Anglers work the drop-off for halibut with drift-fished herring, salmon bellies, squid, or octopus, then switch to metal jigs, swimbaits, and leadhead jigs for lingcod and rockfish holding tight to the rock. Salmon come to trolled cut-plug herring, flashers, hoochies, and spoons through the deeper water along the edge.
