Bellingham Channel Drop-off is a mixed-bottom slope in DFO subarea 7 off Bellingham, Washington, where the seabed falls from 60 to 240 feet at mid-exposure. Lingcod hold along the structure with peak activity from November through February and again March through June, while Pacific Halibut move onto the drop from April into August. Chinook Salmon run June through September and Coho Salmon push through June into October, overlapping with rockfish that stay active March through September. For lingcod and rockfish, jigging metal jigs and leadhead jigs with swimbaits works the deeper edges, while halibut respond to drifting herring, squid, or octopus across the mixed bottom. Chinook and Coho are taken on downrigger trolling and trolling with flashers, hoochies, and whole herring as the salmon transit the channel.
