The south end of Hat Island, also called Gedney Island, sits in Marine Area 8-2 in central Puget Sound near Seattle, where depths range from 30 to 150 feet over a mix of drop-offs and structure. Lingcod hold on this bottom structure through the winter, peaking in January and again from February through April, and respond to jigging with metal jigs, leadhead jigs with swimbaits, or bucktail jigs. Chinook Salmon move through in summer with a peak from July to September, while Coho Salmon run from June into October, both taken by trolling cut-plug herring, whole herring, flashers with hoochies, or trolling spoons. Rockfish stay catchable across the full year and take metal jigs, leadhead jigs, swimbaits, and shrimp flies worked near the bottom. Anglers work the deeper edges near the drop-off for lingcod and rockfish while running salmon gear along the same contour lines.
