Blakely Island Shoal is a sandy flat in Marine Area 7 near Oak Harbor, Washington, sitting in mid-exposure water that runs 15 to 40 feet deep. The shoal draws Chinook and Coho Salmon through their summer peak from June to September, followed by Chum Salmon that build from September into November. Trolling flashers, trolling spoons, hoochies, or cut plug herring covers the salmon runs across the flat, while mooching whole or cut plug herring works the same depths at a slower pace. Lingcod hold along the bottom here with a February to March peak, taken on metal jigs, leadhead jigs with swimbaits, or drifted cut bait, and Black Rockfish stay active from February through September on metal jigs and swimbaits. Pacific Halibut move across the sand from March to June, best reached by drift jigging leadhead or metal jigs near the deeper edge of the range.
