Spencer Spit is a shallow sand flat off Oak Harbor, Washington, in Marine Area 7, with moderate exposure and depths running 5 to 25 feet. The flat holds a strong salmon run, with Coho and Chinook peaking from June through September and Chum following from September through November. Trolling flashers, hoochies, trolling spoons, or cut plug herring works the shallow water for salmon, while mooching whole or cut plug herring covers the same ground at a slower pace. Pacific Halibut move through from March to June and respond to drift jigging with leadhead jigs, metal jigs, or soft plastic swimbaits over the sand bottom. Dungeness Crab fill in the summer season, peaking June through August, and crab pots baited with fish carcasses, clams, or chicken set on the flat produce well.
