Colvos Passage is a mixed-bottom corridor off Tacoma, Washington, where depths run from 70 to 350 feet through a mid-exposure channel. Lingcod hold along the passage's structure with a peak from March through June, while aggregate rockfish concentrate here from April through September. Anglers work the deeper stretches for lingcod with metal jigs, leadhead jigs paired with swimbaits, or soft plastic swimbaits, and drop live greenling or herring when fish are holding tight to the bottom. Rockfish respond to vertical jigging with leadhead jigs and swimbaits, metal jigs, or shrimp flies over the same mixed terrain. The corridor's depth range and current-driven structure keep both species tied to the bottom, so jigging and drift presentations cover the water most effectively.
