Lyle Point sits on the southern tip of Anderson Island in the inner protected waters off Tacoma, Washington, where a mixed-bottom drop-off falls from roughly 20 to 120 feet. The structure concentrates salmon through much of the year, with Chinook Salmon peaking from June through September, Coho Salmon from July through October, and Chum Salmon closing out the season from September into December. Trolling is the dominant approach here, and anglers work cut-plug herring, trolling spoons, flashers, and hoochies along the contour of the drop-off. Mooching whole or cut-plug herring covers the same depth band when fish hold tight to the slope, while metal and leadhead jigs reach the deeper water toward the 120-foot mark. Fishing the tide lines that form off the point keeps bait in front of moving salmon as they track the structure.
