Tanglewood Island sits in the protected inner waters off Tacoma, Washington, within DFO subarea 13, where a mixed-bottom drop-off falls through depths of roughly 30 to 150 feet. The structure holds Chinook Salmon at their peak from June through September and Coho Salmon from July into October, with anglers working trolling spoons, hoochies, flashers, and cut-plug herring along the edge. Lingcod concentrate over the same drop-off from March through June and respond to metal jigs, leadhead jigs with swimbaits, and soft plastic swimbaits fished close to the bottom. Black Rockfish stay active year-round across the mixed structure and take metal jigs, leadhead jigs, and swimbaits, while Cabezon hold to the rock from summer into the winter months. The protected exposure keeps conditions workable for jigging the deeper contours and mooching cut-plug herring through the salmon season.
